Blue Ocean Marine participates at the Indian Ocean Defence Security Conference and AUKUS 2022

Almost 500 delegates, including Blue Ocean Marine Tech Systems representatives, have closed out a landmark week at the 2022 Indian Ocean Defence Security Conference and associated AmCham AUKUS UNLIMITED events.

Group Managing Director Mike Deeks CSC says that the Indian Ocean Defence Security Conference (IODSC) and the AUKUS UNLIMITED event provided an excellent opportunity to promote Blue Ocean Marine Tech Systems and engage with the international marine and defence community.

“Most of Blue Ocean’s interactions were follow-ups with meetings at the highly-successful Indo-Pacific International Maritime Exposition 2022 in Sydney earlier in the year, and top-level Defence engagement since then.

“Our meetings take our business development discussions over recent months to the next level but also introduce us to key defence ‘Prime’ companies, some of which took the opportunity to visit our Bibra Lake Remote Operations and Services Hub (ROSH).

The discussions focused on current challenges and opportunities which was incredibly valuable.

“The focus of the IODSC was future geopolitical developments and opportunities and challenges for defence, the defence industry and aligned research areas in the Indo-Pacific region”, Mr Deeks said

Supported by Defence West, through the Department of Jobs, Trade, Science and Innovation, the conference featured domestic and international speakers and panellists from government, industry and academia and the theme for this year's conference, 'Beyond Transit: The emerging security relevance of the Indian Ocean', recognised the security challenges facing communities that depend on the Indian Ocean for transit and trade.

More than 50 speakers and panellists shared their expert insights, including Australian Defence Force, Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Simon Stuart and Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Mark Hammond AM.

The extensive conference program covered topics considering the implications of current local and strategic issues for the defence and security sectors and discussed outcomes from the establishment of AUKUS.

As part of the main Conference, Mr Deeks gave a keynote address and contributed to the panel discussion about the practical implications of AUKUS for WA industry.

“The Indian Ocean Defence and Security Conference is an important event in the ongoing national strategic dialogue. Quality delegates and presentations have cemented this conference as a key defence conference in Australia,” Mr Deeks said.
