Sibi Ravindran, Blue Ocean Marine Tech Systems’ Deputy Chief Technology Officer

Blue Ocean Marine Tech Systems’ Deputy Chief Technology Officer, Sibi Ravindran, has received a Chief of Army commendation for outstanding achievements as Chief Engineer for a human-machine teaming project.

Prior to joining Blue Ocean, Mr Ravindran collaborated with Army’s Dismounted Combat program. “My role at the Army Laboratory was both challenging and rewarding,” Mr Ravindran said.

“Digitalisation and combat systems integration in the battle space is key to future warfare planning.

“Many of the approaches to bringing technology into service and lessons learned working with Army are particularly important to my work with the research and development team at Blue Ocean.

“Our approach starts with the customers’ challenges first and foremost. Then we design solutions to meet their needs with an eye to evergreening the solution, so that customers and users always have leading technology at their disposal.

The Blue Ocean R&D team, led by Chief Technology Officer and company co-founder Ben Hollings, has grown to 10 researchers and technicians.

Group Managing Director Mike Deeks says that the selection and recruitment of some of the most experienced and high-quality research personnel has been a clear target in the Blue Ocean growth strategy.

“We identified that our customers in the subsea domain required autonomous platforms and control systems that deliver superior data acquisition along with longer deployment times.

“To deliver these outcomes we knew we would need to attract the brightest and best people.

“Sibi’s experience and impact as an R&D leader has been immediate. This Silver Army Commendation is more evidence of what he is capable of in terms of delivering challenging technology projects with persistence and rigour.”

Mr Ravindran’s citation reads:

“… for your outstanding contribution and achievements as the Chief Engineer …

“Your exceptional dedication and professionalism has been instrumental to the advancement of the Australian Defence Force’s dismounted combat capability. Your innovation and persistence to deliver experimentation at the Combat Application Laboratory has been most impressive.”
